KOBUDO INSTRUCTOR CLASSES

As a result of directions of our eminent Master-Sensei Oscar Higa –responsible for Europe of the Kobudo ‘s School-, subsequently broadcasted (see “Samurai Review/October 2002”), the Piedmont District branch has predisposed a program rule, checked by our Sensei, for giving support to all Instructors, Gymnasium Technical Managers and Karate Masters who are interested to become instructors of Kobudo.

The learning of the techniques to basic level begin from the official program already in progress for the passage on examination to 1^st level, with the basic weapons to use for the teaching to the new initiates people (Bo and Nunchaku). For the future instructors, already in possession of pertinent certification of martial arts instructors, the aforesaid instruction of the technique-base will have to take cared, evidencing the errors that frequently the students make during the learning of the same ones;  particularly, it will be necessary to teach the correct approach with the weapons: grip of the Bo and Nunchaku, accurated movements in the trajectories of the weapons, as in the defence positions that in attack; it is necessary that the techniques, executed at first on the place, become accurately controlled above all in motion unison with the body movements;  essential it is the automatic hand-change above all in the Bo. It is  necessary to remind to the future instructors the errors that normally are evidenced as in the movements that in the right shape of the positions (basic posture of traditional Karate-Do). Moreover the future instructors must know the correct terminology and performance of the techinques, to accurately hand on the own students.

The techniques of Kobudo must be taught cherishing of tied intrinsic phylosophy to the “Hara concentrativeness” and the Zen philosophy, than still today it determines the kind, humble, but resoluted character at the same time, of the Ryukyu Japanese. The kernel is the training of the hips, from the which start every part other movement of the body. The natural circular torsion of they (incomprehensible to the less initiates person) and the originated circle psycho-phisical from part of all the movements allow to direct and to carry the energy in flowing and co-ordinating way. 

Moreover, already at basic level, it is necessary to remind to the students the rudiments of our school. Every weapon has its particular characteristics and its techniques; for having a complete control of the arm, this (whichever it is) must become a hypothetical extension of just the body. In this way it is able to control the technique of every weapon without no type of risk. The Kobudo can be practiced from anyone; obviously who trains a martial discipline which the Karate turns out some benefitted. The our school ‘s program laids down the instruction of Kihon (technical bases), Kata (shapes), and Kumijutsu (attacks and respective parries and counter-attack) for each of the taught weapons. The practical one of the Kobudo is not exciting only, like an itself discipline, but helps to upgrade and enrich the practical one of the Karate.

 In compliance with the intentions and the traditional thoughts of the Sensei Higa and Master-Sensei Kotaro Iha (world-wide founder), the qualification to the teaching  of the Kobudo for martial arts practising has the purpose to make to know and to learn, even to spread in right way this ancient and noble art  of the Okinawan Island. The Ryu Kon Kai is proud of proclaim that every member of the Association its devote to train and to learn theirselves at bottom the Kobudo day and night; moreover they place all themselves in order to correctly inherit the traditional intrinsic value of the Budo – a precious cultural inheritance of Okinawa- and have tried the better way in order to convey this inheritance to the future generations.

An other fundamental look-out-point to let know to the students, is that one of the persevering training of the learned techniques; In fact the maxim “Kyudo Mugen (the way of the study is endless)”, contains the spirit of the school: perseverance in the training and unlimited researching of the improvement like a growing distance in contraposition to a static mentality.

Our ethic demands the obligation of participation to stage, held technical modernizations etc. as by Sensei Higa that other masters of the school holding. For the instructors, at the end of classes, it will follow a stage in Turin that Sensei Higa will hold, where formally will be given the qualification to the teaching of Kobudo – 1^st level, by previous testing about the acquaintance of the learned techniques.
